Roadside Journeys

poem by Gina Ellis

She journeys along country roads
with an expectant sidelong gaze,
looking for fancy crowns of white,
filtering summer sunlight rays.

Her smile hints at sweet memories
then bursts wide, joy creasing her eyes. “There they are, so beautiful!”
she triumphantly cries with a sigh.

Three little heads look out car windows,
color pops on dancing limbs.
Standing tall are her favorites,
swaying in the strength of their stems.

Sunlight falls creating soft shadows
through stiff but delicate blooms
intricately connected to the crown,
as are we from her womb.

Wishing to see once again,
the radiance of her summer face.
I am musing with memories
while looking alone for Queen Anne’s Lace.
